Drifting rules

Summary of rules for judging and scoring drifting competition.

These rules are presented to drivers before each event on driver's briefing with track officials and judges. Usually there's 3 judges each overseeing specific part of the track or criteria of the run (depends on their agreement).

Judges are closely cooperating with track officials to control and monitor action on the track - they give signals to start marshall and collect feedback from zone marshalls.

Zone marshalls are placed near zones where judges cannot clearly see passing cars and they communicate via flag signals.

Track rules

Drifting outside the designated area and warm-up zone is prohibited. In case of non-compliance, the rider will be penalized. A starting light will be used for the starting procedure. In the event of a traffic light failure, the flag will be used to start. Only red flags will be used on the track. When they are waved driver must stop drifting and continue slowly to the finish line.

In battles, the red flag will also be used to restart the race. In the event of restarting the drive, slow down smoothly and return in the opposite direction to the start.

All driving outside the drift track should be limited to 10 km/h, inside the paddock the maximum speed is limited to 5 km/h.

Qualification run

Each driver needs to qualify to be able to enter Tandem battles. There're 2 qualification runs for each driver and they're scored with points. Drivers are ranked on leader board based on the higher score from those 2 runs (if there should be more drivers with same score; total sum of points from both runs will decide).

Qualification run can be considered incomplete and scored by 0 pts. if driver makes one of the following mistakes:

  • Spinning out
  • Opposite drift(drifting with the opposite angle required at that point on course)
  • Hood, hatch, roof, trunk and/or doors opening during a run
  • Straightening or major corrections
  • 2 wheels outside of the tracks
  • A mix of multiple mistakes that could be classified as an “Unchaseable Lead”

Tandem battles

Each driver need to qualify to be able to enter Tandem battles. There're 2 qualification runs for each driver and they're scored with points. Drivers are ranked on leader board based on the highest score from those 2 runs.

If a driver does any of the following mistakes in a tandem run, the driver will not receive a score for that run and therefore the run will be considered INCOMPLETE.

  • Spinning out
  • Opposite drift (drifting with the opposite angle required at that point on course)
  • Hood, hatch, roof, trunk and/or doors opening during a run (that does not occur from contact from another vehicle or an object like a wall or course barrier)
  • Straightening or major corrections
  • 2 wheels outside of the tracks
  • Collision with the other driver that is considered “avoidable” or unsportsmanlike
  • A chase driver intentionally not chasing the lead driver after an INCOMPLETE was scored on the previous run.
  • Three consecutive restarts from chicane cones or an official's call
  • Performing an Illegal pass - results in an INCOMPLETE for the chase driver
  • Getting legally passed - results in an INCOMPLETE for the lead driver
  • A mix of multiple mistakes that could be classified as an un-chaseable Lead
